About the Training Programme
The Training Programme at Candle is an educational programme
for 15-21 year olds.
The Training Programme is for young people who are:
- Early School Leavers
- Referred by the Probation Service, Tusla or other community groups
- In need of support around their education or emotional wellbeing
- From refugee and migrant communities
- Young Travellers
Young people can take part in one of three different courses leading to a QQI Major Award.

Within these awards young people take part in a variety of subjects including:
- Communications
- IT Skills
- Maths
- Personal Effectiveness
- Health Related Fitness
- Work Experience
- Woodwork
- Art
At QQI Level 5 the subjects are:
- Understanding Community Development
- Community Development Practice
- Communications
- Social Studies
- Personal Effectiveness
- Work Experience
- Community Arts
- Working with Groups
The Training Programme is delivered through trauma informed classes and small group sizes, with a range of supports to help young people achieve their goals. The programme aims to prepare young people for the opportunities and challenges in their future.
As well as their classes, young people:
- Take part in cultural trips and activities
- Attend developmental and lifelong learning workshops
- Access the Therapeutic Space
- Participate in the Gaisce Award
Gaisce Award
The Gaisce Award is Ireland’s national youth award and is a self-development programme for young people. Young people at Candle are supported to work towards the Bronze and Silver Award. To achieve the award young people learn a new skill, help the community, take part in a sports programme and go on an adventure journey.

Young people can also achieve other qualifications through our Employability Skills programme:
- Safe Pass
- Manual Handling
- First Aid
- Barista Training
- Food Safety
Progression
After the Training Programme, young people can progress to employment, apprenticeships, further education, and for those who complete the Level 5 course, Third Level.
